West Norfolk Young Carers: ACCESS 2 HERITAGE PROJECT

This project will support people who experience mental ill health in King?s Lynn and West Norfolk. It will offer free long-term counselling, mentoring, group work and peer support whilst exploring triggers for mental ill health. These can include traumatic life events, loss of employment and marginalisation. Support will be provided by a team of 25 professional volunteers and those involved will be able to assist in project development through a working group.

The group will replace a no longer fit for purpose church hall with a modern, larger, purpose-built facility that directly addresses the identified needs of the community. The new centre will create a focus for the village, provide services and help to reduce rural isolation therefore creating a stronger, healthier community.

This project will use funding to replace and repair old and rotting wooden frames and structures at the group?s club building and also install a ladies disabled toilet.

This project will use the funding to provide and install a Community Public Access Defibrillator, and provide training for community members about how to use it safely. This will enable community members to potentially save a life in the crucial minutes following a cardiac arrest.

King's Lynn Minster Welcome and Accessibility Project

The funding will be used to build a new village hall to benefit the 4,000 members of the local community. On top of current activities like parent and toddler groups, bingo and arts and crafts, the hall will host new activities including a youth club, social club, keep fit, cookery classes and drop-in GP sessions. There will also be IT classes for older people delivered by younger members of the community. This will help reduce isolation, improve social opportunities and enable people to learn new skills.

This charity will use the funding to provide a befriending service for older people who have been diagnosed with dementia. This will address the isolation experienced by older people with dementia.

This is a project by a charity in King?s Lynn and West Norfolk. The organisation will use the funding to run ten days of social activities for carers and their families, culminating in a major community event. This funding will enable the organisation to bring local people together to raise awareness of the work that unpaid carers do in the community.

This charity will use the funding to provide advice, information and support to local young carers to support their educational, emotional and social needs. This will enable young carers to overcome the issues they face due to their caring responsibilities to ensure that they have better chances in life.

This organisation will use the funding to offer a year long series of shared concerts, open rehearsals and workshops. This will provide therapeutic activities to support the mental health and wellbeing of local residents.

This organisation will use the funding to run two volunteer training programmes to set up a volunteer service that will assist in supporting terminally ill clients and their families. This will improve the quality of life of terminally ill people.

The Redevelopment of The Shed Skatepark

This project will train, support and empower disadvantaged children and young people from rural communities. They will be educated as volunteers and receive training in topics like leadership, coaching and youth work. They will create a programme of extracurricular activities for the local community, including sports, employability skills, mentoring and guidance. Young people will be signposted to other services where necessary and the group will use a mobile bus to support those in very isolated areas.

The Parish Council has identified that the church hall is no longer fit for community usage. It will now explore the options to replace it with a modern-purpose built facility for use by the whole community.

This school will use the funding to develop an outdoor play area in the school grounds by installing safety surfacing and play equipment. This will encourage pupils to be physically active to improve their health and wellbeing.

The funding will be used to develop a project supporting people from migrant communities in King?s Lynn, West Norfolk and Wisbech, many of whom have experienced issues like hate crime, exploitation and trafficking. It will provide advice and support in multiple languages to help with issues like learning English, legal rights and responsibilities, finding work and healthy living. The project will also benefit the wider community through promoting cultural awareness and tackling prejudice.

This school will use the funding to purchase outdoor equipment and clothing that will be used when the school becomes a Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre. This will enable the school to provide more pupils, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds, with access to outdoor qualifications and learning, improving confidence, aspirations and potential to succeed.

This funding will be used to develop plans for the construction of a new village hall, replacing the existing one which is no longer fit for purpose. This will be a low energy building with capacity for 200 people and will host a wide range of social, learning, physical and health activities, arts and crafts and a village cinema. The hall will also serve nearby villages which do not have these facilities or regular social groups. This will bring local people together and help improve health and wellbeing.

The organisation will use the funding to purchase the equipment necessary to set up an after school interactive dance class with an aim to reduce health issues present amongst the children. This will enable the organisation to provide a fun and healthy activity session to increase their fitness.

Wheelchair Bowls Club

The organisation will use the funding to train people from disadvantaged communities in basic life, functional and money management skills. This will increase support available to people in financial crisis through one to one workshops, debt casework and one to one support sessions.

A project to install safety surfacing and a new swing at the village recreational ground. This will enable the group to provide additional play equipment to accommodate more children and young people, as well as improve the safety at the play area to prevent injury and enable the community to fully enjoy the site safely.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver a year-long programme of singing workshops aimed at people who are socially isolated, have mental health problems or experience other issues that present challenge and difficulty to their lives. This will use singing as a means of social integration and improving confidence in order to improve the wellbeing, health and self esteem of beneficiaries, with community performances to celebrate their achievements and reduce stigma associated with mental illness.
