Activity & Wellbeing

The project will engage people with learning disabilities who are experiencing loneliness, isolation and exclusion. The group will target people who don't normally qualify for Adult Social Care support. The aim of this will be to support their independence, health and wellbeing, social networks and provide assistance in accessing services and facilities. Using a person-centred model - each person will receive home visits to develop a life action plan and an emergency information and support plan.

The project will offer their residents weekly taster sessions and intergenerational activities involving local school children. Sessions will include gardening, music, photography, educational trips and arts and crafts and an exhibition of their work at a local centre. The project will help reduce the social isolation of older people with dementia, develop their skills and improve their health and wellbeing.

The project will establish a weekly luncheon club and group activities for older people, unemployed people and those who are socially isolated within the community. The activities will help people to improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

The project will deliver weekly cooking and food growing sessions for disadvantaged families in East Howdon and Percy Main. The sessions will help families learn how to grow their own produce, and prepare and cook healthy meals.

This is a project by a voluntary organisation in Newcastle with beneficiaries throughout Tyne and Wear. The project will run training events and seminars for refugees and migrants from French speaking countries. The training sessions will be facilitated by successful people of refugee backgrounds who will act as role models. They will help participants to develop their skills, confidence and aspirations, improve their opportunities and integration into British society.

The project will continue to deliver mental health awareness workshops for service users and local students. They will provide counselling sessions for members of the community, promote understanding of mental health issues, and provide interventions and coping mechanisms to improve wellbeing.

The project will train African women refugees who volunteer at their recycling depot in Newcastle upon Tyne in packing, labelling and dispatching clothes. This will help the women develop confidence and experience, and will also reduce isolation and depression amongst African women refugees.

The organisation will use the funding to replace the internal water pipe and communal taps of their allotment site. This will improve the facilities and enable the members including, families, older people and people with mobility issues, to continue to enjoy the health benefits of the gardening activities.

The school will use the funding to install outdoor gym equipment and provide outdoor physical activities and healthy eating advice for pupils with special educational needs and members of the wider community. This will encourage beneficiaries to become more active and improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

The organisation will use funding to implement an ICT club for older members of the community to help reduce isolation and enable beneficiaries to access online information and services, such as shopping and healthcare advice.

The organisation will use the funding to mark its fifth year and fund a programme of choir performances at community events throughout the North East. The events will culminate in the choir taking part in the Hand in Hand biennial national Festival of LGBT choirs in Manchester in June 2017. The group will run stalls to promote the benefits of the choir and its performances, and reach out and support new potential members from the LGBT community at risk of social isolation.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award and a leadership programme of activities for disadvantaged young people and looked after children. This will provide accredited awards, volunteering opportunities, expedition and enrichment activities for beneficiaries, to develop their leadership, communication, team working skills and attainment.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver a programme of physical after school activities including dance, multi-sports and outdoor sessions, for sixth form students who have learning difficulties. This will develop the confidence, co-ordination, motor, social and cooperative skills of participants. The group will also provide tailored leadership training for those inspired to help deliver the activities.

The organisation will use the funding to run a programme of outdoor nature adventure activities for children in key stage 1 and 2 from schools across Tyne and Wear and Northumberland. This will improve health and wellbeing, social skills and personal development of the children.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver a volunteer mentoring programme to provide one to one support for refugees. This will provide training for volunteers and mentees and ongoing support to help aid local refugees' integration, improve their English language skills, education and employment opportunities.

This will enable the group to encourage residents to stay active and socialise with their neighbours to reduce isolation and prevent loneliness or ill health.
