Tall Ships Cultural Programme

The project aims to support carers of drug and alcohol misusers and will offer a comprehensive care plan and onsite package ensuring they have access to the appropriate and relevant services. A range of services will be delivered including counselling, one-to-one support and respite and coping strategies. Individuals will also be given the opportunity to share their experiences and solutions through family match peer support sessions which will reduce the effects of isolation.

The aim of the project is to support older people who are lonely and isolated, to access health service provision through a range of interactive activities and peer support. The health and wellbeing skills programme will offer a range of flexible, demand led, weekly activities designed to give older people the skills to make positive health choices. This is will enable service users to alter their behaviours and achieve better health outcomes and increase their independence.

The project will help local refugees and asylum seekers to access health services and make healthy lifestyle choices by offering HIV awareness, health checks, referrals, advice and information; healthy cooking and eating advice; exercise sessions; and a family sports and fun day.

The project provides a mentoring and befriending service for people with poor mental health and aims to reduce the inequalities and isolation they face in society. Service users will be matched to a volunteer mentor and the support they receive will enable them to re-engage in community activities such as go shopping, attending events and offering assistance in form completion or with making telephone calls.

The project will continue to provide an advocacy service from its drop-in centre. There will be an additional focus on areas of specialist support including a bereavement advocacy service, transitions in retirement, and independent living or finding care home accommodation on leaving hospital. The aim of the project is to achieve a better quality of life for older people, support them to feel safe in their own homes, gain access to health and care services, and feel valued by their local community.

The project will hold a community fun day and open days, and provide coaching and referee training for members of their group. They will bring young and older people together for fun activities to improve community relations, and help young people develop skills to improve their employability.

The project will provide a wide range of weekly creative, gardening and physical activities for older people from the Pallion Ward of Sunderland. This will help older people develop skills, hobbies and friendships, reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing.

Better Than Therapy?

New dinghies for training

The project will restore their double decker bus to be used to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Muhammad Ali?s visit to Sunderland. The bus will be used to provide fun trips, informal chats about the historic visit, and workshops to help improve interfaith relationships and the understanding of different cultures.

The project will purchase two new toilet water cubicles, children?s tents and adult tents for officers. This will improve facilities and safeguarding standards and will enable the group to continue to provide an active and healthy camping holiday for the community.

The school will deliver a programme of extra-curricular holiday activities for children and their families in Sunderland. Activities will include arts and crafts, cookery and nutrition, sports, and a film and games club, and will culminate in a celebration event. The project will provide volunteer opportunities and accredited awards for young people to become sports leaders and help supervise sessions, and will encourage children, young people and families to make healthy lifestyle choices.

The project will deliver a range of open access youth activities and expand its service to five additional wards. Blue Watch Youth Centre currently provide a range of leisure, cultural sporting and enrichment activities which take place in and around local youth and community venues. The organisation plans to increase the range and quality of their service to five additional wards, helping improve access to youth facilities across Sunderland.

The project will aim to deliver opportunities for young people to access sports, education, training and employment across the whole of the west of Sunderland. They will work with organisations already embedded in the community who have an understanding of local issues and areas of concern. Street based programmes will be created to work with young people in their environment, which will help with relationship building to engage them in positive, preventative programmes.

The project will install new kitchen and heating facilities in their new premises. They will provide twice weekly independent living skills taster sessions, and develop their new premises into an accessible community hub providing multiple support for people with mental health and financial hardship problems.

The project will continue to provide a weekly job club for people with dyslexia. They will provide sessions in basic literacy, assistive technology, advocacy, coping strategies and dyslexia awareness to help people develop confidence and skills that will improve their independence and employment opportunities.

The project will purchase equipment and resources to develop their musical ukulele group so they can provide services to community groups, activities for older people in residential homes and lessons for local people who are socially isolated.

The project will hire a health engagement worker to plan, develop and coordinate a programme of healthy lifestyle activities and workshops for local disadvantaged women. This will help the women to improve their health and wellbeing and reduce loneliness and isolation.

The funding will be used to run holiday play schemes during the school holidays for local families, to include healthy cooking, sports and games activities, soft play, trampoline coaching and self-defence classes. The project aims to provide a range of activities to help improve people?s confidence, independence and social skills, help to reduce their social exclusion and broaden their experiences.

The project will run a twice weekly lunch club and social and recreational activities for local people to reduce social isolation, loneliness and the impact of poverty on the community.

GREAT PLACE SCHEME: Sunderland Comes of Age

The funding will be used by a school to run creative sessions where families will design and make a mosaic to be displayed in the school?s entrance, ending in an unveiling celebration. The project aims to develop the creative, team building and communication skills of hard-to-reach and isolated families, in order to help them access other community activities as well as improve their confidence and skills.

The project will upgrade the toilets of their community centre to improve facilities for existing residents and community groups, and to encourage more groups to use the venue for activities.

The project will carry out a feasibility study to explore new ways of bidding for funding by small voluntary and community sector organisations to give them equality in accessing funding opportunities. They will deliver several information/awareness sessions across the city, look into using a new lead agency model, encourage partnership working and increase members.

The project will deliver weekly fitness sessions for young people from the Farringdon area of Sunderland. They will provide a range of health information resources and diet plans to encourage participants to make informed and healthy lifestyle choices.

The project will provide activities for 7-19 year olds during term time. This will help children and young people to develop emotional, social and communication skills and empower them to make decisions on the activities they take part in.

The project will improve the heating of their venue, purchase new IT equipment and deliver IT and social media training for people who are deaf or have hearing difficulties. This will help people develop skills and provide social activities that will reduce isolation.

The project will purchase safety suits and fishing equipment to improve safety at the club and enable older people at risk of isolation to take part in activities, develop new skills and enjoy the social and recreational benefits of fishing.

The school will build an outdoor shelter for pupils. This will provide a nurture space to use for creative activities and lunchtime relaxation that will help children experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties to develop coping techniques to improve their wellbeing.

The project will deliver taster sessions, including creative and craft activities for the local community, during themed events such as Easter and Christmas. They will deliver trips and social activities and purchase laptops to improve residents' IT skills and employment opportunities.

The project will deliver cooking sessions for young people aged 8-19 years old to help them develop food preparation and cooking skills, learn about nutrition and the importance of a healthy diet, and encourage them to make healthy lifestyle choices.

The project will continue to run services for marginalised groups. The project will engage with socially and digitally isolated people, help them access services and support them with welfare benefits and health matters.

The project will extend their software development course to include people over the age of 24 and deliver a series of courses for unemployed people to help them learn about job opportunities in the software sector. This will raise awareness of the industry, improve skills and provide progression routes for people interested in the software industry.

The project will deliver bereavement support programmes for adults, offering group discussions, tips and techniques to build coping mechanisms. This will help improve the emotional wellbeing of participants and help them move forward with their lives.

The project will refurbish their office, develop their website, put in place financial and HR policies and procedures and develop a business plan. This will help ensure their future sustainability to deliver services for young people and young homeless people in the north east.

The project will deliver a series of FITBlast and Family FITBlast sessions to pupils and parents from 10 primary schools in Sunderland. This will engage families in physical activities, boost fitness and reduce obesity.

The project will develop a drop in service, advice centre and hate crime reporting centre for local lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, many of whom may be isolated or lonely. This will provide volunteering opportunities, regular groups including HIV peer support group, bisexual, LGBT and transgender support groups, social events and signposting to services.

The project will replace the rotten raised plot beds of their allotment site. This will improve health and safety and enable the group to continue to deliver events and social, horticultural, educational and gardening activities for voluntary and charitable groups and the wider community.

The project will purchase mobile IT equipment to deliver street based youth work in the St Peter?s Ward of Sunderland. Youth workers will offer vulnerable young people on the streets a ?mobile health information service?, providing signposting to healthcare providers, and helping young people to make informed decisions and healthy lifestyle choices.

The project will deliver support activities to improve the confidence and wellbeing of young people who are experiencing low self esteem or bullying.

This project will improve the health and resilience of families caring for children with complex disabilities in Sunderland, Gateshead and South Tyneside. It will provide practical and emotional support to families who may be isolated, struggling to juggle caring, work and family time, or missing out on time to themselves or with siblings. Services include counselling, alternative therapies, peer support and social groups, training, drop in support, and practical help to make accessing respite care easier.

The project will deliver fitness and dance classes, and workshops on body image, self-esteem, stress management and motivation for women suffering from abuse. This will empower vulnerable women to effect positive change in their leisure, work and social environments.

The project will build on their current work with young people by expanding their health and wellbeing activities to include workshops on substance abuse, smoking, alcohol and obesity. This will give young people opportunities to socialise, exercise and get advice about healthy eating and personal hygiene.

The project will continue and develop a holistic service for refugees and asylum seekers with physical or mental health issues who experience disadvantage due to disability, language, immigration status or ethnicity. The project helps them develop confidence, knowledge, skills and independence and integrate into the community, working with agencies and local residents. Support includes befriending, advocacy, health information, telephone advice, English skills and practical help to access services.

The project will build on their current work with young people by expanding their health and wellbeing activities to include workshops on substance abuse, smoking, alcohol and obesity. This will give young people opportunities to socialise, exercise and get advice about healthy eating and personal hygiene.

The project will deliver healthy eating sessions and upcycling activities to disadvantaged young people. This will engage the young people in positive activities, raise aspirations and improve their health.

The project will deliver training to people aged 19+ who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to help them achieve a One Awards Entry Level 3 qualification in Employability Skills. The organisation will work with local employers so that people with ASD can showcase their skills and have an opportunity to secure an apprenticeship, job or training place.

The project will use the funding to pilot a ten week long interactive health education workshop for people with learning difficulties. The pilot will help people achieve their health goals by providing carer support, interactive nutrition sessions, weight management and holistic and physical activities.

The organisation will use the funding to support the development and delivery of an intergenerational community outreach choir. This will engage volunteer members to write and develop new songs, become community champions and deliver performances, to help promote understanding and respect between different generations, reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing through music and singing activities.

The school will use the funding to deliver a weekly programme of after school activities for their pupils to develop their skills and confidence. This will include leadership training and unusual outdoor activities such as archery, orienteering, fencing and walking football, to encourage the children to become more active and raise their aspirations.

The organisation will use the funding to continue to provide activities for people aged over 50, including chair exercises, healthy eating, community walks and personal development sessions. This will provide a support network, and learning and health based activities, to reduce participants' social isolation and improve their wellbeing.

The organisation will use the funding to develop a Youth Volunteering Academy. This will provide training, tailored support, personal development plans, work and volunteering experience to improve young people?s confidence and skills, further education and employment prospects.

This will help voluntary groups recruit the right volunteers, re-skill and retain volunteers/staff and provide a platform through evening meetings for volunteers to share good practices, learning and knowledge and support each other.

The organisation will use the funding to host a range of events including fun days, training courses and residentials for carers of people affected by substance misuse. This will provide carers with respite opportunities, enable them to gain peer support and reduce isolation.

The organisation will use the funding to carry out a feasibility study, commission design proposals, and carry out business and operating plans to help re-configure their building into a dual use community facility. This will involve consultations to ensure the facility and activities meet local needs, and ensure the venue's future sustainability.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver a reactive instant counselling service for people experiencing life changing events including bereavement, redundancy, domestic violence and health problems to help prevent issues escalating or reaching crisis. They will provide face to face and telephone support, and early interventions with signposting to service providers to help alleviate clients' emotional distress, and improve their circumstances and wellbeing.

The group will use the funding to purchase IT equipment and provide a new IT suite so they can deliver a higher number of online examinations for people to access at their own workplace, and also enable young people not in employment, education or training, and the wider community to access improved, innovative training and development opportunities.

Wordsworth and Basho: Walking Poets encounter Nature

The project will enable adults with a mental health problem in Sunderland (including Washington), to explore the therapeutic nature of the creative arts in a friendly environment to aid their recovery. The Art Studio will provide a fully equipped ceramics workshop with kiln and pottery wheel; a print making workshop; photographic/film workshops, film making/animation equipment; an IT suite, and traditional arts materials.

They will support young carers and help them get their voices heard. They will create a video, using their own stories as examples, to train staff in schools and health services about their needs. There will be workshops such as cooking, first aid and fire safety, as well as sessions on keeping active and healthy. The group will also run a holiday scheme to help people develop friendships, boost their confidence and self-esteem, and raise their future aspirations.

The group will use the funding to set up a holiday activities programme for young people aged 11-19 years old which will include trips, sporting activities, cinema, bowling, cycling, cooking and street dance. This will provide young people from a deprived area with play and leisure activities during the holiday periods.

The group will use the funding to run a centre providing support for unemployed people to improve their employment opportunities. This will help them develop IT skills, search for jobs online, access support services, and make informed choices.

The organisation will use the funding to deliver monthly meetings for prostate cancer suffers, their families and friends. They will raise awareness of the illness and its symptoms to enable more men to get checked, and offer counselling, nutritional advice, cooking classes and complementary therapies to help improve the physical and mental wellbeing of sufferers.

This existing project will continue to deliver a community transport scheme in Sunderland, providing affordable, reliable transport to community groups, charitable organisations and voluntary sector groups and supports the most vulnerable members of the community to experience activities that may otherwise be out of their reach.
