This Manchester based project supports vulnerable men aged 18 to 30 experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage. It focuses on male sex workers and young men at risk of exploitation, combining one-to-one support, advice and advocacy with arts based engagement. Intensive health and social care will address basic and immediate needs. A programme of creative interventions will provide the time and space needed to begin addressing underlying issues that initially brought them to crisis.

The funding will be used by an organisation working with homeless people. The project offers people support and food, as well as the opportunity to make two minute films telling their stories about homelessness. The organisation aims to get more people involved in volunteering and to highlight issues homeless people face.

NGB Funding 2017-21

The group will continue to provide training to new volunteers and carry out street patrols in central Manchester at weekends. This will reduce the risk of harm, crime or assault on people who may be intoxicated or otherwise vulnerable including people experiencing homelessness.

The group will commission training in governance, strategic planning, co-operative development and accountancy for its management committee members. This will increase the confidence of the management committee members, improve the effectiveness of the organisation to develop its services and ensure appropriate management and control of the enterprise.

The funding will be used to support an organisation?s work by developing their website to create a collection of information and resources for other organisation working with homeless people. The project aims to improve the knowledge and support available to service providers.

The funding will be used to run an IT training course for twelve people in the local community who will also be trained to deliver the same training to others in the local community. The project aims to improve access to IT, increase digital skills and reduce isolation.

The funding will be used by a voluntary organisation to renovate a scout hall, to include new kitchen facilities, windows, flooring and heating. The project will improve the venue?s facilities to allow people to continue to access training, activities and events.

The funding will be used to run culturally sensitive employment skills training for people from black African communities who lack English language communication skills in order to allow them to access other training courses and employment opportunities. The project aims to people?s life chances.

This project will improve the health and wellbeing of older people living in Gorton and Levenshulme to reduce isolation through social interaction. A steering group of older people will take responsibility for developing and running social activities and a wider group of activists will help develop and deliver campaign activities. These will be informed by workshops that discuss concerns and develop appropriate ideas and solutions. Conversations will also involve local service providers and businesses.

The funding will be used to take young people from the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) on a residential stay. The project aims to provide support and advice as well as give people the opportunity to learn and share more about gender and discuss how to challenge sexism.
