This trust will use the funding to hold a three day festival to promote their town. The project idea was a result of strong feedback from the community through a community consultation which was funded through Investing in Ideas.

Stranraer Academy

The group will be able to continue to run existing activities for young people who have witnessed or experienced domestic abuse. Participants will have access to 1:1 counselling and play/group work activities that enable them to understand the abuse was not their fault and to develop coping skills to assist them to move on from the trauma they have witnessed. They will also be signposted to other agencies for specialist support, and accompanied to social services meetings or any other meetings as required.

The trust facilitate community development in the region. The aim of the project is to get people together to celebrate a local landmark and raise awareness of local community organisations.

This group will use the funding to undertake a consultation and business planning exercise to examine the feasibility of running an annual Stranraer Oyster Festival. This festival would showcase and celebrate Scotland?s only native wild oyster beds which are situated in Loch Ryan. The oysters will be the focus of the festival but it presents an opportunity to celebrate other local produce and producers.

This project aims to provide a cost effective way for people of all ages and backgrounds in the local community to learn new skills through boat building and engaging in water sports. The project also aims to encourage the community to make greater use of the natural asset of Loch Ryan. The community will come together to build and paint two St Ayles skiffs rowing boats (which can accommodate 4 rowers and a coxswain). A shed to accomodate the skiffs will also be built.
