Mboka Festival: Professional Development Opportunity

The group will expand its work bringing people from different generations together to combat loneliness and discrimination. Students interview older people and write a book which is presented to them, providing older people with more social contact and younger people with rewarding volunteering experience. The funding will be used to develop materials for other communities across the country to get involved in the project.

This is a project to launch new mid-week basketball sessions and a run a holiday club aimed at young people aged 11-16. This will engage young people in physical exercise and encourage them to be more active with the aim of reducing obesity and improving their health.

This project will renovate the kitchen within their local village hall. This will provide an up to date and safe kitchen facility which will meet health and safety requirements and address the needs of new and existing service users and groups within the wider village community.

U DO IT! Dance Foundation in Cardiff will use the grant to engage younger people through the medium of street dance to promote healthy lifestyles and deter anti-social behaviour. The organisation will use the funding to continue their pilot project bringing young people and older people together to work on an intergenerational project to work on a joint workbook to produce a published biography. This will provide opportunities for young people and older people to work together on a project to reduce social isolation amongst older people and address issues of ageism and discrimination.

The organisation will use the funding to expand their current activities which provide participatory singing sessions in care homes and the community for people with dementia. This improves the social, emotional and physical health of older people living with dementia.
