The applicant wishes to explore the legacy of Gaudier-Brzeska in Cardiff and thereby to inspire pride in Cardiff having been the home of one of the most revolutionary sculptors in Europe. He will do so by re-evaluating and spotlighting the Gaudier-Brzeska holdings at NMW and sites such as the Cardiff Castle Animal Wall. He wishes to discover if Cardiff and the National Museum natural history collection were influential in Gaudier's career and thus the history of sculpture.

Visual Artist Nicky Arscott and writer Greg Koehler wish to begin a creative dialogue that takes as its starting point the attempt by Samuel Roberts of Llanbrynmair (pacifist, feminist, abolitionist) to set up a Welsh utopia in the wildernesses of Tennessee in 1857.Using drawing, painting, audio recordings, installation, poetry and flash-fiction, the two artists will research, explore and retell some of the stories around mass emigration to the US from Llanbrynmair/US.
